                                   Handmade Candelarius Flutes & Headjoints

A beautiful, pleasant sound on the flute is achieved when the instrument is responsive to the player's breath. And the headjoint is where most of this response comes from. Not all flutes with stock headjoints respond well, including the handmade ones, even those made of gold and platinum. This is the reason why professional flute players of major orchestras (and flute performance majors at music conservatories) explore different headjoint options aside from what is delivered with their flute purchase. Realizing this, many flute manufacturers are now turning to collaborate with headjoint specialists to design exclusive headjoints to be marketed with their flutes. This is not a new idea, as Albert Cooper of London, my mentor in headjoint making, advocated matching a specially handmade custom mouthpiece to a flute of a different maker, and many flutists worldwide have taken heed. If you play a flute with a stock headjoint and are not too happy with it, or simply want a different "flavor",  we invite you to try one of our headjoints on your current flute to experience what you have been missing.--Candelarius
